So I couldnt hold back.

I did a quick length check of just my bangs to satisfy myself. Mostly because I started back on MN, I wanted a reference to start with.

Last time I did a length check at the end of Apr. Lets just say it was in May, but I was at 13.5" all over. I did a trim so lets just cut it down to 13". Then I had a minor setback, just a little breakage on the ends from over use of the BKT. IDK the exact measurement after that.

So 13" at the end of Apr. Its now the end of July so that should be a good 1.5" of growth right, give or take from the little setback. So, 14.5" is where I should be, correct?

Well as of July 31st, my bangs are 14.5" long!!!!

Ahhh!! Right on track!

And again, I do like to subtract a half inch to count for trims & setbacks, so lets just call it 14".

Here are my Bangs!

I dont think I can call them bangs anymore at this point...

But, Yay! I'm almost to my goal! The back is actually touching the bottom of my brastrap. Another 2"(4 months or so) I will be at MBL.

Then the only thing I will have to worry about is working on thickening my hair back up.

I will worry about that when I get to that point. But for now I will continue with my baggy ponytail, twists, and MN.

Using MN as a Growth Aid & Rambles about Breakage...

I started back on Miconazole Nitrate a few days ago. I have used it before and out of all the topical growth aids I have tried this has given me the least amount of side effects. Actually none that I can think of off hand.

I plan on applying it to my scalp daily for a month. Then, taking a break and starting back up for another month. That way my body will not get so used to it and I can continue to see growth without reaching that plateau.

When I did use MN previously my hair grew an inch for that month. The tube I got lasted me exactly one month. I dont really have a valid reason for not continuing to use MN other than the fact that I did not want to be seen buying Monistat or atheltes foot cream every month... People will think theres something seriously wrong with me... LMAO!

This time I was browsing around on ebay and I was curious to see if anyone was selling for less than what they cost in the store. Luckily I found quite a few of them, so I got a BIN for $10 for 4 tubes. Good deal! Usually I would end up paying $10 for one tube.

So yea these should last me for a while and I wont have to go through the embarrassment of seeming to have a chronic yeast infection.... :/

I am actually dying to measure my hair, but want to wait until Aug because thats my scheduled check in month. If I do measure, I will post on the blog so that I can do a comparison next month to see how much growth from the MN I'm getting.

I'm actually a little afraid of what the tape measure will say. I'm sure my last 2 measurements were a little off because I used a ruler instead of tape measure, and also because I had a little breakage from overusing the BKT and not deep conditioning often enough.

I am however back on track. My breakage is under control. I will not say that it is gone yet completely, but its getting there. Also, I am deep conditioning 2x each week like I should be. Yay!

I can tell a great difference in my hair. It feels much softer, it is laying down smoother, and the curls are more defined. It's awesome!

For me, deep conditioning twice weekly is an absolute MUST! I know for a fact that if I do not do this my hair will break regularly. When I do this and once I have the protein and moisture balanced, that is when I reach that point where I get NO BREAKAGE!

I am still protective styling with the ponytail baggy, pictured here. Took this pic today. I really love the curls on this one. I am actually hoping to be at the bottom of my brastrap when I measure next month.

This should be fun!

HHG & HHJ everyone!!

Theater Shooting in Colorado

I am absolutely appalled and horrified at what happened early this morning in Colorado. Batman was a long awaited movie in which many people ran to see on premiere night. For someone to destroy what was supposed to be a night out for many families is just completely unreal!

There were children in the theater. Many of the victims were children.

How could something like this ever be an option?

I was planning on taking my 3 children to the theater to see this movie tonight. Obviously, I have canceled those plans. I have been thoroughly turned off from going to another movie for a long time.

I feel horrible for the people who lived through this as well as the people who died.

What went wrong in this guys life? He seemed to be doing well for himself.

Again, here we are in a world where people do these terrible things and are glorified for it. I think he wants to be like that piece of shit, George Zimmerman. Who knows...

I dont even want to think about that fool. I'm disgusted at the comments he has recently made.
"God's Plan" ????? Fucking asshole.

Since when was it gods plan for a child to be murdered in cold blood????

All I know is that I hope that these 2 get raped repeatedly when they go to prison.

And to those who may have these types of thoughts, please take it from me, whatever happened to you, it will pass. Society is not to blame for any problems you may have. The negative aspects of we as a culture will never change because of how one person feels. Even though this is a great tragedy, the world will continue turning and people will pick up where they left off.

Everyone has their own idea of how society should be, but none of them are right. No one set of views are actually best, because everyone is different. The thing that makes the world great is that everyone is unique. Everyone has different opinions and values.

Change the world by having a positive outlook on life.

It breaks my heart to see things like this.

Stay safe everyone!

Open Box Haul - Drawstring Ponytails

My package came today! Well actually I had to run to the post office in the pouring rain to pick it up...

But here is the video showing what I got.

I want to clarify the "no hair" comment I made in the video. It was meant to be a joke and I dont mean it to bash anyone who does not have hair, as I have dealt with my fair share of hairloss over the years.

Thing is that it took me a long time to find a brand of drawstring ponytails that can actually hold a good amount of hair as well as hair as it gets longer and thicker.

I bought a ponytail a little while ago and was not able to wear it at all because it was so small. It literally was made for someone who had a tiny little bun like the model in the picture had.

That frustrates me because it seems to be the norm and add to the fact that it also plays into the stereotype that those who wear weave do so because they can not grow hair at all.

But yea, no big deal. Hope you enjoy the video!

We have come a long way!

As I go through my journey of getting my hair back on track, I am basically relearning all the things that I used to do that helped my hair to grow from above sl, relaxed, dry, brittle hair, to healthy, soft, beautiful, MBL, Natural hair.

Luckily, I started to keep this blog a little after I first started on my Healthy Hair Journey. At the time I thought it would be a good idea to document everything I did to my hair, and I was completely right!

After my hair fell out and I chopped it off, I have dealt with so many conflicting emotions when it came to my hair. Its so frustrated to reach your goals and have it all disappear in a short amount of time. My hair is so important to me and it always has been. I always wanted to know how to make my hair healthy and from a very young age I would search for every ad anything I could that pertained to hair care.

The problem was, back then there were no resources, or very few that catered to our type of hair. The internet and therefore the world has come a very long way. 10 years ago, I was using dial-up! Digital cameras were a myth!

Although times were much simpler back then, certain things are so much easier now. The internet is a wealth of information and the "secrets" are out there waiting for you to find them. Stylist no longer have the control they once had.

I used to think that I would never be able to give my hair that bounce that I got from going to the salon, but I watched and I studied until I got it. Now I refuse to go to a salon. I'd shave my head bald first! lol

It has been, maybe over 9 years since another person has touched my hair... Maybe longer, who knows!

Sometimes I do get funky and want someone else to do my hair, but then I have to remember that there are VERY FEW people who know how to handle my natural hair.

Every Single Time someone has took it upon themselves to do my daughters hair they rip inches off!! It frustrates the hell out of me to go and come back to find that someone has "done" my baby girls hair.

Apparently natural hair does not look done to many people.

Anyway, this post started as a post about my deep conditioning regimen and has gone in an entirely different direction all together.

I am very happy with the changes in society. The economy is crazy right now and I read in The Post a few days ago about some random person comparing Obama to FDR(or whoever, I dont do history, lol) and how by now in his presidency he all but fixed the economy...

Thats seriously comparing apples to oranges. Back then they were not dealing with the World economy that we have today. Back then was a different time, a different culture, a different people all together with different values and beliefs.

I am happy to live in the times we are currently in.

We have come a long way, and we will continue to grow and prosper.

Happy Hair Growth & Happy Hair Journey to all!!!

Protective style - Simple Braided Bun

I have been bunning for the past few days. I switched it up from how I said I had it in the last post and am now doing the braided tucked bun. Its very simple, yet effective. I did a video on this a few years ago and I still do it the same way. Heres the video...

I stop and talk briefly about the shedding and birth control situation, somewhere in the middle. This was in the beginning when my hair was still crazy thick. *sigh*

My hair is as you can see, still recovering. The thickness is slowly coming back. I have had, what I call baby hair syndrome or halo hair, for a long time.

Slowly, but surely I will make it back to the crazy thick long hair I had long ago...

LOL. Its funny that I talk about it like it is some crazy myth. From all the hairloss I have experienced in my life time, it sure seems like it. But in the end, I'm sure I will make it back and you will see me whipping my hair around on youtube more often, just because... :D

Here is how I keep this style up everyday.

Braided Bun Regimen

  • Cowash every other day, when I dont cowash I spray with a water/conditioner/oil mix.
  • Detangle with denman brush when cowashing to remove any shed hair.
  • Use conditioner as a leave- in and add a little evoo or castor oil on top.
  • Smooth down edges with Eco Styler gel.
  • Cover with scarf to smooth and airdry.

I love this style because it is simple, quick, and it really helps to keep the hair nice and tangle free, as well as retaining growth. Its nothing flashy but I remember doing this on days when I didnt feel like wearing a baggy ponytail or any other style.
I'm wearing it now because it is so simple, I can just throw it in and go!

Hope you find my blog to be informative and helpful! TTYL!

Detangling a Mini Twistout and Bun Regimen

I wore the twistout for a good 5 days, I think, before I detangled.

In order to detangle, I simply spray the hair with water and slather it with conditioner. I then take medium to small sections and use a Denman type or paddle brush, starting from the ends and working my way up to the root.

I'm the type to make sure I get out all or almost all of the knots. Otherwise, I find I will get breakage and that is not an option for me at this point.

After I detangled I washed and DC with Lekairs overnight, with my hair braided in 2 and covered with a plastic cap. I rinsed out in the morning and threw my hair into a bun.

To sleep, I remove my ponytail holder and braid my ends up into one big braid and cover with a satin scarf. In the morning, I either cowash or spray with my water/conditioner/oil mix to refresh and put back into the bun.

I will keep doing this until my ponytails come in the mail. :)

My next length check is in a month and I feel like I may have had a set back from overusing the BKT. Will see whats good next month.

Back when @Youtube was fun...

I was bored and wanted a refresher of my hair in all its glory back in the day. lol So I went to my YouTube channel and watched a few of my vids. If only YouTube could go back to the way it was then. Its not as fun anymore.

When I first started on @YouTube, I uploaded whatever I wanted. I'm big on music so I played all my jams in my videos. Although, a lot of people complained the music was too loud, it wasn't my fault. I blame it on Window Movie Maker. I would turn the music to a good level when editing, but when it actually uploaded the music would be BLASTING! lol

I would delete the video from my computer so I really couldn't go back and fix it so I just left it as is. Mehh....

I had so many of my videos taken down or muted because of the copyright thing, it was so frustrating. Even now, I think my vids are a little boring because of everything I can't post.

But yea, here are I think my first 2 hair videos that I posted over 4 years ago!! My hair was so fab in these videos. So freaking thick!!!

The good old days.... LMAO!!

Now, I want to do this hairstyle again. Too bad I dont have anymore Flexi8 clips. :(
I'm definitely going to have to order some soon! Will post if/when I do.

New Ponytails!!!

Today I am washing out my twistout and decided that I want to start back with the Ponytail Baggy once again. I could not find any good ponytails at any of the stores where I live so I ordered a few from a store online.

I looked around until I found a place that sold them for a good price including shipping and the one I found had them for $8.99 each! I was happy, so I got 3 of them!

2 of the models, I used to wear regularly before and I was glad to see that they still made them.

I will do an open box video and show what each of them look like on when the package arrives. It should be here early next week! Excited!

Inspired by- Revlon Kinda Editorial Fun Makeup

I was flipping through a Vouge and came across a Revlon ad which featured a deep blue & glittery smokey eye.

Was bored so I decided to recreate the look with my own twist! It actually came out nothing like the picture, but hey, this is my creative process. Take something and make it better.

Its a very fun look and yes I did use my 100 E.L.F. palette again. I absolutely love that thing... *sigh*

Shes wayyy pale so obviously I had to warm up the look for my skintone. I really went in a totally different direction than the pic.

Ahh... Such is life. ;)

But yea, I love the look. Both mine and the ads.

Oohh baby baby, bay, baby baby... Ahh.. ssss.. push it! Push it good!

Shades for the Summer

A little while ago I ran to Neimen Marcus to grab a pair of shades. I cant stand being in the sun without shades, especially while driving. It hurts my eyes!! Ahhh!! It burns!! :P

Its good idea to wear shades whenever you are in the sun. By keeping your eyes protected you are preventing any wrinkles and sun damage you would normally get over time without it.

Squinting es no bueno, as is sun damage.

When buying shades, I refuse to do the cheapies because I break them after one use most of the time. The more expensive ones do keep up much better, and they usually come with a nice case which is also great! So I browsed through and found 2 that I really liked.

My favorite are the Burberry ones. So cute! I have a thing for hearts so of course I had to grab them when I saw them. Plus, they were on sale.
The Ralph's are great because they have the blue tint to them, which is my fave color of course. They are a little too big for my face but, no biggie, I can deal.

I have had these shades for about 2 months with daily wear and they are still like new. ♥♥

I unraveled my twists today. I love the way that it looks like this. Here are a few shots..

I will most likely wear this for a few days. I don't cowash with this because it will tangle like crazy if I do. Yea, no makeup. So what? lol

Have a good night!

Everyday Eyes - Sealed Shorts - ELF 100 palette

Heres another look using the E.L.F. 100 palette. I really love the colors in this palette. Elf shadows have come a long way from what they were when they first came out. The biggest test for an affordable product which shows that it is actually worth it, is in the pictures!

I have come across many shadows that look good in person but once you take a picture it goes completely ashy! Thats not a good look. The colors should be just as vibrant in the pictures. I have not had this problem with either one of my Elf palettes. Super impressive!

By the way, there is something funky going on with my right eyelash... Must not have glued it down completely. :/ Oh well, don't have time to redo it so I just took it off after the pics.

LOL Looks really crazy here :P

Salmon Jambalaya for the 4th of July!!

Yesterday was the 4th! Yay fireworks!!

Of course I cooked for the holiday! It just wouldn't be right if I didn't!!

I made this amazing Salmon Jambalaya and thought it would be awesome to share it with my readers. :)
I really love seafood and if you are a fish person like me you will love this! You can make this as spicy(or not) as you like. Me loves it spicy! The more the better.

One thing you may notice is that I do not really measure when I am cooking. Everyone has different taste buds and food can also be stronger or milder depending on the season. Here I used 3 jalapenos because they were very mild in flavor. If you have really spicy jalapenos, then surely you would not use 3 of them, correct? :)

I prepped by roughly chopping my veggies. Here we have an onion, 3 jalapenos, scallions, green peppers, and cilantro, from left to right. I would have also added celery and red peppers but forgot them at the grocery store. You can always use what you have and modify, but the cilantro is absolutely necessary!

I then chopped 2 salmon fillets into big chunks. I used 4 Chorizo sausages chopped up but Andouille is recommended if you can find it. I also have a few handfuls of shrimp under there shelled and de-veined.

Now would be the time to start your rice so that it will be finished once you are done with everything else. It is best to use white rice since it does not take away from the flavors in the dish.

I added a couple tablespoons of EVOO to the pan and preheated, then threw in all the veggies I chopped up.

After that cooked for a few minutes I added my spices. Here I have salt, pepper, chili powder, paprika, red pepper flakes, cumin, thyme, and rosemary. I also added some minced garlic and artichoke hearts.

Let that cook down some more and tossed in my seafood, minus the shrimp. I covered this and let it cook another few minutes.

Almost done!! I added a can of diced tomatoes and some sugar to taste.

Cover this bad boy and let sit for at least 10 minutes on simmer so that the flavors can soak in. Make sure to stir so that it does not stick to the bottom.

Last but not least, toss the shrimp on top and cover. At this point you can turn off your fire. You don't want to over cook your shrimp, do you?

I went ahead and plated it in a serving dish ready to go! I don't like to mix my rice in until its in my plate. But that's just me! Plus I think it gives a prettier presentation.

Looks great right? It really did taste amazing and everyone loved it!

I love making people happy with food. ;)

Removing Acrylic Nails

I have been removing my acrylics one by one over the past few days so that I could practice more with the NSI Spa odorless system. I realized that I didn't really give myself enough time to get used to it before I decided I didn't like it. As difficult as I find this to use I could get used to it. I had to remind myself how bad and strong traditional acrylic smells.

I find traditional acrylics much easier to work with. I caught on the those very fast. Getting the ratios right were a no brainer for me. As I work with the odorless more and more, my ratios are getting much better and I just about have it down.

So here is the process I went through to remove the acrylic from my nail.

Step 1: Soak in remover
You can use any acetone based polish remover or acrylic remover. I just used a regular sandwich bag to hold the liquid. Soak for 10 mins.

Step 2: remove acrylic
The top layer should be soft enough to scrape away. Use a metal cuticle pusher to remove as much acrylic as possible. Repeat steps 1&2 as needed.

Step 3: Clean up nail
I usually takes me 3 soaks to get the nail completely clean. At this point you can soak one last time to remove the last bit of acrylic or you can file this off.

Here is my nail with all acrylic removed. I mistakenly peeled the last layer of acrylic off and it took a little bit of my nail with it. I do not advise for acrylic to be peeled off. I usually soak it completely off and doing it that way my nail bed is just as pretty as it was before the acrylic was placed.

You do not necessarily have to remove every last bit of acrylic, only the lifting and whats necessary to rebalance the nail when reapplying.

Here I reapplied the acrylic. My shape is a little off but it is a huge improvement from the first set. I am getting used to the new system. Yay!!
